The “Old Energy-New Energy” (stage 1&2) development is funded through local contributions and a Victorian Government New Energy Jobs Fund grant.

90 kW of on-ground solar PV and 25 kW/h batteries will be installed alongside the historic State Coal Mine in Wonthaggi. The Mine is run as an important tourism precinct with very strong local volunteer involvement, on land managed by Parks Victoria. It holds an iconic historical-cultural position in the local area. The installation will provide emissions reductions for power used on site, much of which is required to pump water from the underground mine and to power the Visitor Centre. Income provided to Energy Innovation Co-op via the sale of electricity to Parks Victoria, will contribute towards the Southern CORE (Community Owned Renewable Energy) Fund. (See our donation model)
